Fans of Shakespeare are in for a treat on Saturday 28 April when Shropshire Drama Company (SDC) undertakes an unusual challenge to promote its forthcoming production of The Merry Wives of Windsor at Much Wenlock Festival and raise money for Severn Hospice.
Entitled ‘The Merry Wives of Shropshire’, the event will run from 10am to 4pm in The Square, Shrewsbury, where members of the cast and friends from other drama groups across Shropshire, will undertake a non-stop reading of scenes based on the theme of marriage, from a number of The Bard’s plays.
SDC member and event organiser Joanna Purslow said: “It has become customary for us to hold a fundraiser prior to our Much Wenlock Festival production. It not only raises awareness of the play, but also money for a good cause. In previous years recipients have included Breakthrough Breast Cancer and a charity for homeless people in Shrewsbury. This year we have chosen the worthy Severn Hospice. Members of drama groups from around the area are reading as individuals or as a whole company and I would like to thank them for providing their time and support. We’re looking forward to what will be an interesting challenge and a lot of fun!”
Tickets for The Merry Wives of Windsor are available to book online at www.muchwenlockfestival.co.uk.
