24/06/09 – Tickets on sale and rehearsals under way for Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th century comedy

24/06/09 - Tickets on sale and rehearsals under way for Oliver Goldsmith's 18th century comedy-Body

Tickets are now on sale and rehearsals well under way for Shropshire Drama Company’s (SDC) forthcoming production – Oliver Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer. Directed by Peter Beechey, the performance will take place at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn on 13, 14 and 15 August.

She Stoops to Conquer is a riotous 18th century comedy of misunderstanding, love, class and dysfunctional families. Two young men, Charles Marlow and George Hastings, attempt to court Kate Hardcastle and her friend Constance Neville. However, wealthy Marlow is shy around upper class women, but not lower class. A barmaid seems fair game, but is she who she seems?

Peter Beechey said: “This is SDC’s premier production at Theatre Severn and we’re very excited to be staging a play during the theatre’s first season. She Stoops to Conquer contains a number of delightful deceits, clever schemes, comic ruses and hilarious turns of plot. Along the way, there is an abundance of merry mix-ups, bawdy dialogue and much sly satire of the times. It will be a lot of fun for the audience and as an added bonus we will finish the play in time for them to watch the Flower Show weekend fireworks finale from the balconies at the theatre.”

Tickets for She Stoops to Conquer are priced at £12 and £10 (concessions) and available direct from the Theatre Severn box office 01743 281281 or online at www.theatresevern.com.
