Tickets are now on sale for Shropshire Drama Company’s (SDC) latest production, Mixed Doubles: An Entertainment on Marriage.
It will run as a short tour in November, at the following venues:
Friday 13 – Wem Town Hall
Monday 16 – Performing Arts Theatre, Shrewsbury Colleges Group (London Road campus)
Friday 20 – All Stretton Village Hall, Church Stretton
Saturday 21 – Montgomery Town Hall, Powys
Directed by SDC’s Michèle Rowland-Jones, the play is performed as a theatrical revue, consisting of a series of eight comedy sketches alternating with short monologues, which combine to provide an acidly humorous perspective on married life from the wedding day through to old age.
Mixed Doubles, which originally debuted under the title We Who Are About To… at the Hampstead Theatre Club on 6 February 1969, features work from an incredible line up of legendary English playwrights including Harold Pinter, Alan Ayckbourn, Fay Weldon and George Melly, with contributions from David Campton, Alun Owen, Lyndon Brook, James Saunders and John Bowen.
Commenting on Mixed Doubles, Michèle Rowland-Jones said: “The characters across the eight separate sketches are plagued by various trials and tribulations arising from: their jobs; incidents from their past and married life in general. Designed as a dynamic revue with the cast members playing multiple parts, Mixed Doubles is a departure from the norm for SDC and we look forward to generating some laugher and empathy from the audience, some of whom may identify with the various marital scenarios presented!”
Performances begin at 7.30pm and tickets are £12.50, available to purchase through the SDC website here: https://shropshiredramacompany.co.uk.
