25/05/12 – Queen Elizabeth to visit Shropshire Drama Company production in June

QE pic

Aside from Her Royal Majesty’s visit to Shropshire in July it has been announced that a Queen Elizabeth will also be paying a special visit to the county in June. She and an entourage of VIPs will be in attendance at the Much Wenlock Festival.

Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Robert Cecil, the Countess of Warwick and the Queen’s lady-in-waiting Anne Clifford will have an exclusive royal box from which to be entertained by Shropshire Drama Company’s performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor, written by her favourite playwright William Shakespeare.

Rosalind Garrard, director of The Merry Wives of Windsor, said: “This is the first time we have received royalty at one of our productions and I will have to make sure that the actors are at their best for our discerning guests. I’m sure Queen Elizabeth will enjoy the play’s setting on the church green in Much Wenlock, a town similar in many respects to the town of Windsor where the royal court is located. We hope the Queen enjoys her stay and we look forward to entertaining her and all of the audience with our production – which will be packed full of fun and laughter!”

The Merry Wives of Windsor takes place from 11 to 16 June at Much Wenlock Festival. Tickets are available to book online at www.muchwenlockfestival.co.uk.
